JF Scarborough III - Senior MD and Co-Founder
Mr. Scarborough is a Senior Managing Director and Co-Founder of Izar Capital Group, and has spent the majority of his career focused on international business, specializing in corporate financial advisory, new venture development and deal structuring. Throughout his career Mr. Scarborough has successfully completed dozens of transactions, including company valuations, new company formations, capital raises, mergers & acquisitions and strategic alliances.
Mr. Scarborough is responsible for developing and structuring new business ventures for clients ranging from multi-national corporations to governments to small technology start-ups. Mr. Scarborough has represented leading companies across multiple industry sectors including renewable energy, manufacturing, health care and technology.
For almost a decade, Mr. Scarborough served as a member of the Mondragon International North American Delegation where he advised numerous Mondragon companies in transactions including joint ventures, new company formations, strategic acquisitions and divestitures. In 2014 he was named Mondragon’s North American Commercial and Financial Director where he continues his role of helping Mondragon cooperatives build their businesses in North America.
Mr. Scarborough was a Senior Financial Advisor to the US Department of Energy for the Renewable Energy Loan Guarantee Program. At the DOE he provided industry, financial and technical knowledge in support of over $5 billion in solar generation projects. He was also the US State Department’s Renewable Energy Expert for the Guest Speakers Program, through which he led multi-day speaking programs with governments, universities, multilaterals and private companies around the globe.
Throughout his career Mr. Scarborough has worked very closely with key stakeholders – states, foreign governments, NGOs, multilateral institutions and private companies – to promote renewable energy as a means for economic development and creation of green jobs. A recognized leader in the solar sector, Mr. Scarborough has spoken publicly at many industry events and actively participates in policy discussions around the U.S. as well as internationally.
Prior to co-founding Izar Capital Group, Mr. Scarborough was a partner at MAPA, a DC-based business development consulting firm, co-founded a technology start-up company and led the financial team in the successful sale of the company to investors and spent four years in South America working in the fields of corporate finance and mergers & acquisitions. In addition, during two years in Asia, Mr. Scarborough led a team of analysts for the US State Department, specializing in trade development research projects.
Mr. Scarborough received his M.B.A. from the University of South Carolina MIBS program and graduated Phi Beta Kappa with Honors in Economics from the University of North Carolina. In addition, Mr. Scarborough studied Japanese language and business culture at the Kokosai Kristokyo Daigaku in Tokyo.
